FAQ

I am not affiliated with Columbia University (e.g. student, staff, employee).  Can I join the dojo?

Unfortunately, one must be affiliated with Columbia University in order to join the dojo.  Specifically, one must have a Columbia ID to enter the Marcellus Dodge Physical Fitness Center.

The good news is that we have a public-access dojo in Manhattan.  The Kokikai-ryu Aikido of New York City is located at:

     Aikido Kokikai of NYC

250 West 26th Street
     (between 7th/8th Avenues)
     4th Floor
     New York, NY

I have no martial arts background.  Can I still join the dojo and practice Aikido?

Absolutely!  Previous martial arts experience is not a requirement to Aikido.  All you will need is an open mind, dedication and a solid determination to embark on a path of self-discovery.

I have practiced a different style of Aikido.  Is it okay to practice with Kokikai Aikido?

Absolutely!  While various Aikido schools may emphasize  different aspects of Aikido, the basic premise is the same.  The execution and techniques might vary slightly, but the principles of harmony and blending remain consistent.
