Daily Life

Our teacher, Shuji Maruyama sensei, has always encouraged us to practice Aikido in our daily life.  Since Aikido means "the way of harmony with ki," it only makes sense that Aikido also serve as a metaphor for life. The "do" in Aikido means "way" or "path."

O Sensei, Morehei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido, conceived Aikido as a way to reconcile the world.  Having been schooled and mastered traditional and violent martial arts, he realized that these "arts" only promoted the escalation of violence.
